Monaco Grand Prix week got underway with a blend of sport, entertainment and philanthropy as the Barbagiuans de Monaco claimed a convincing victory in the second edition of the Racing Stars Football Cup at Stade Louis II.
The annual charity match saw the Barbagiuans take on the Nazionale Piloti, a team made up of Formula One drivers and motorsport personalities, in front of a packed crowd gathered to celebrate the start of one of the Principality’s most prestigious weeks.
Led by Barbagiuans president Louis Ducruet, the event attracted an impressive line-up of sporting legends and celebrities. Former Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho was among the headline names representing the Monaco side, alongside former football internationals Ludovic Giuly, Sébastien Squillaci, Gaël Givet, Flavio Roma and Valère Germain. Television personalities, comedians and social media stars also joined the squad for the occasion.
The Nazionale Piloti team featured several familiar faces from the Formula One paddock, including Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, Isack Hadjar and former Grand Prix winner Felipe Massa. Football greats Leonardo Bonucci and Clarence Seedorf also lined up for the drivers’ side.
The Barbagiuans quickly established control of the match, combining experience and attacking quality to build a commanding lead before half-time. Louis Ducruet added his name to the scoresheet as the home side delighted spectators with an entertaining display.
After the break, both teams rotated players extensively, allowing a wide range of participants to take part in the festivities. Despite a spirited response from the Nazionale Piloti, the Barbagiuans remained firmly in control and eventually secured a 6-2 victory to retain the Racing Stars Football Cup.
One of the evening’s biggest attractions was Ronaldinho, whose appearance drew significant attention from fans. The Brazilian icon showcased flashes of the skill and creativity that made him one of football’s most celebrated players, earning enthusiastic applause throughout his time on the pitch.
Away from the sporting spectacle, the event maintained its charitable focus. Funds raised during the evening will support the organisations Mercy Ships and Les Soins de l’Espoir, continuing the Barbagiuans’ long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes.
