Donald Trump signed on Tuesday, without pomp or fanfare, a highly anticipated decree which establishes flexible supervision of artificial intelligence, with optional control by the government of the most advanced models. The text provides for the development of a “voluntary basis” framework with AI companies, which will be able to submit their cutting-edge models for review by the government, before their release. The text also contains this clarification: nothing in the decree “shall serve to establish” any “obligatory” prior control by the government of new AI models, we also read.
