Luxembourg’s young artistic swimmers are preparing for a major first, as a national junior team will represent the country at the European Junior Championships at the Coque from 4 to 7 June. The team recently took part in the 33rd Synchro Cup, a long-standing event organised by Swimming Luxembourg, as part of its preparation for the European competition.
The junior national team was mainly created with the European Junior Championships in mind, and the prospect of competing on home soil has given the young athletes extra motivation. Training intensity has been increased to 22 hours per week, while the swimmers have also taken part in six competitions abroad.
The young athletes want to represent Luxembourg as well as possible on the international stage, something that requires intensive preparation. Ukrainian coach Katerina Podgurska is pleased with the team’s development.
Through the European Junior Championships, the Luxembourg Athletics Federation hopes to give artistic swimming greater visibility in Luxembourg and encourage more young people to discover the sport.
