Police across Punta Gorda, Cayo, and Belize District have arrested and charged several individuals following separate operations that led to the seizure of firearms and ammunition.
In the first incident, Punta Gorda police have charged 23-year-old Rozaun Vairez of Punta Gorda Town with ‘kept firearm without a gun licence’ and ‘kept ammunition without a gun licence.’
Police say the arrest was made during an anti-crime operation when officers observed two men on a motorcycle. The rider allegedly sped off when officers attempted to intercept them, triggering a chase.
During the pursuit, Vairez reportedly fell from the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot but was detained shortly after. Police say a search of a backpack in his possession led to the discovery of a pistol containing a magazine loaded with 18 live rounds of ammunition.
In a separate operation in the Cayo District, five individuals were jointly charged after police discovered an illegal firearm at a residence in Unitedville yesterday.
Those charged are Calvin Garcia, Sydney Forbes, Kareem Garcia, Bernadine Myers, and Kevin Trapp. Police say a .22 pistol containing five live rounds of ammunition was found during the search.
Meanwhile, in a third incident, police have arrested and charged 45-year-old Virgil Vasquez of Maskall Village for aggravated assault and keeping a firearm without a gun licence.
According to police, the charges stem from a report made by a male complainant who said he boarded a vehicle driven by Vasquez on May 31, 2026. The complainant alleged that after noticing a firearm inside the vehicle and attempting to exit, Vasquez retrieved the weapon and pointed it at him, though he managed to escape unharmed. Police later detained Vasquez and seized a .40-calibre pistol.
