On Tuesday, the Iraqi Integrity Commission announced the ouster of four senior officials in the directorate who were involved in a theft and embezzlement of nearly two billion dinars in the Diyala Electricity Directorate.
The Commission’s statement stated that the staff of the Integrity Commission in Diyala Governorate were able to “uncover a process of embezzlement and theft of electrical materials valued at more than (1.7) billion dinars, and overthrow four senior officials in the Governorate’s Electricity Distribution Directorate, on the grounds of exploiting their positions and seizing public money.”
She indicated that the work team of the Diyala Investigation Office, under the direct supervision and continuous follow-up of the head of the authority (Muhammad Ali Al-Lami), moved to the Diyala Electricity Distribution Directorate, where it was able to overthrow (4) senior officials in the directorate; Because they attempted to steal electrical materials from the directorate’s stores and embezzle their amounts, which are estimated at (1,744,600,000) dinars, which led to a waste of public money, pointing out that store secretaries reported that the materials had not been received into the stores and that none of them had been delivered.
During the operation, which was carried out pursuant to a judicial warrant, original disbursement documents, “carbonated copies,” exit papers, and disbursement notes related to the case were seized.
The authority explained that the defendants organized non-authentic disbursement documents and had them stamped by the internal control in the directorate, and kept two copies of them with two of the defendants, noting that the mechanism followed after the materials arrive is to register them according to a transfer document signed by the storekeeper, and then entered into the store’s accounts unit.
It concluded that the judge of the Baquba Investigation Court, which specializes in integrity cases, decided to arrest the accused in accordance with the provisions of Article (316) of the Penal Code, while continuing the investigation.
