After the judgment of the Court of First Instance, that the case file, part of the OPEKEPE case, must be filedwhich was formed for potential criminal responsibilities of the ruling party’s incumbent MPs, Charalambos Athanasiou and Tassos Hatzivasileiou but also of the former president of the Agricultural Payments Organization Dimitris Melathe Member of Parliament of Lesvos Charalambos Athanasiou made the following statement:
“A completely baseless case was filed. I declared then and I declare now, that as long as I serve this place and its citizens, I will intervene in defense of their legitimate demands. And public services must be more flexible in order to understand that many of our livestock breeders and farmers are not familiar with completing and checking the relevant supporting documents, consequently losing benefits to which they are legally entitled”.
It is noted that the Prosecutor’s Office conducted a preliminary examination, following the transmission of a relevant document by the European mandated prosecutors, to investigate the possible commission of the offense of moral turpitude in breach of duty by the two MPs.
After conducting research, ruled that for those in question there are no indications of moral authorship in breach of duty and therefore finds that the case should be placed on record. The Appellate Prosecutor’s Office will decide whether or not to validate the filing.
