How Oman celebrated Eid Al Adha

Muscat: Omanis across the Sultanate celebrated Eid Al Adha through a rich blend of social gatherings, cultural events and traditional performances that reflected the country’s deep-rooted heritage and strong sense of community.

In the Wilayat of Liwa in North Al Batinah Governorate, residents marked the holiday by organizing a series of social and heritage activities that showcased Omani traditions and strengthened ties among community members. The celebrations featured the popular “Eid Coffee” gatherings, which were held on the second and third days of Eid in an atmosphere of friendship, hospitality and social interaction.

The gatherings, a longstanding tradition in the wilayat, brought together families, elders and young people in rotating neighborhood venues, ensuring broad participation across the community. Residents said the custom has been preserved for generations and remains an important part of Eid celebrations in Liwa.

The festivities also included performances of traditional Omani arts such as Razha, Al Azi, and other enthusiastic folk performances, with wide participation from local residents. The events highlighted the authenticity of Oman’s cultural heritage and added a festive traditional character to the celebrations.

Rabie bin Ahmed Al Saadi, a resident of Nabr village in Liwa, said the “Eid Coffee” event was organized on a rotating basis among the area’s neighborhoods. The gathering was held in one neighborhood on the second day of Eid and moved to another on the third day, allowing all residents to take part and reinforcing cooperation and solidarity among community members.

He noted that the tradition embodied important social values and contributed to strengthening social cohesion, fostering mutual respect and affection among generations, and introducing young people to Oman’s authentic customs and traditions.

Meanwhile, in the Wilayat of Seeb, residents and visitors took part in the three-day “Al Ayoud Festival,” organized by the Office of the Wali of Seeb in cooperation with the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Seeb, as well as a number of government entities and private-sector organizations.

The festival was held during both morning and evening periods as part of Eid Al Adha celebrations and aimed to promote the social and cultural atmosphere associated with one of the most important religious occasions in Oman and the wider Islamic world.

Visitors enjoyed a variety of activities, including performances of traditional Omani singing arts, recitations of patriotic and emotional poetry, and cultural and artistic competitions for children held on an open-air stage. The festival also featured horse-riding activities and introductory equestrian training sessions.

In addition, a consumer exhibition was organised for families from the wilayat, alongside entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium-sized enterprises. The exhibition provided a platform for local businesses and vendors to showcase and sell a range of food products and consumer goods.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali Al Shuhi, Wali of Seeb and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said the festival was held at a central location in the wilayat to provide a social occasion that reflected the joy and festive spirit of Eid Al Adha.

He added that the event attracted large numbers of visitors, prompting organizers to establish it as an annual feature during both Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha due to the strong turnout and engagement from citizens and residents alike.

Across Oman, Eid Al Adha celebrations combined religious observances with cultural activities and community gatherings, highlighting the enduring role of heritage, hospitality and social solidarity in Omani society.
