The visual artist Pablo Atchugarry was distinguished by Catholic University of Uruguay as doctor honoris causa in an event that included personalities such as the president of the Republic Yamandu Orsiamong others.
The recognition was given to Atchugarry due to “his pathhis sensitivity and its priceless contribution to art contemporary to international level“said the university in a statement.
The event was also attended by other national government authorities such as the Minister of Education and Culture José Carlos Mahía and the chancellor Mario Lubetkin. The cardinal was also there Daniel Sturla and the former president Julio María Sanguinetti.
The award took place on last Wednesday in the Aula Magna of the institution, where the rector Julio Fernández Techera highlighted the event as “a recognition of one of the most important artists of Uruguay“and “also a art recognition“.
“To distinguish Pablo Atchugarry is to say that art matters to us. It is important for our society and for our country,” said the rector in his speech. For his part, the director of the Bachelor of Visual ArtsLeandro Gómez Guerrero, was in charge of introduce Atchugarry and his career.
Once with the decoration, Atchugarry stated that “having big dreams and following them, with personal effort, everything is possible“.
