Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), April 16, 2026 (Embassy of Saint Christopher and Nevis)
— A high-level delegation from the Embassy of Saint Christopher and Nevis in Taiwan, led by His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Ambassador of Saint Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis to the Republic of China (Taiwan), conducted an official visit to the I-Mei Foods Nankan Factory in Taoyuan City on April 15, 2026.
Ambassador Francis was accompanied by Second Secretary Rolhensha Henry and Executive Assistant Alice Huang during the engagement, which was designed to strengthen dialogue on potential cooperation in food production, innovation, and sustainable development.
Founded in 1934 as a small pastry shop, I-Mei Foods has evolved into a globally recognized food manufacturer producing a wide range of products, including baked goods, cooking oils, organic items, and nutritional supplements.
An extensive tour of the facility offered the delegation insight into the company’s integrated operations, beginning with its on-site museum showcasing historical production tools and early innovations in food manufacturing. Attention was also drawn to the company’s sustainability practices, including an ecological system where treated wastewater is reused for irrigation and aquaculture purposes.
Further observations included visits to production lines for hamburger buns and English muffins, products distributed to major international retail and food service chains such as Costco and McDonald’s in Taiwan.
Particular interest was expressed in I-Mei’s advanced food safety laboratory, which conducts rigorous testing for contaminants, ensures compliance with international standards, and monitors product integrity through detailed quality control procedures.
Commendation was extended by Ambassador Francis to the company for its longstanding commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainable development. He underscored the value of expanding partnerships that advance food security and reduce import dependency for small island developing states.
“I want to commend I-Mei for its strong focus on quality, food security, public health, innovation, and sustainable development,” the Ambassador stated. “I hope we can establish a partnership as our country aims to reduce its food import bill and achieve food security.”
Appreciation was also conveyed to His Excellency Jack Yu-Tai Cheng, Ambassador (Retired) and President of Taiwan News, for facilitating the visit, as well as to Mr. Kevin Chen, General Plant Manager of the Nankan Factory, Ms. Sophia Wu, Manager of the Administrative Office, and the broader I-Mei Foods team for their hospitality and professional engagement.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining constructive dialogue with I-Mei Foods, with a view toward exploring mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, food security, and sustainable industry development.
