The Rural Development Unit (RDU) has received funding from the Caribbean Development Bank (CBD) to embark on the 2nd phase of the Climate Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP), which will focus primarily on implementing irrigation and infrastructure projects across Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.
SAEP will execute these initiatives in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Soil Care Project.
Two major projects scheduled to begin in 2026 are the rehabilitation of the Chambord Irrigation Pond and the Chambord Farm Access Road, which will improve farm market access and climate resilience for at least 29 farmers in the area.
In this regard, the RDU will be hosting a Stakeholder Engagement Meeting at the Rose Hill Community Centre on Thursday, 16 April 2026, beginning at 5 pm.
The objective of the engagement is to inform farmers and other stakeholders about the upcoming irrigation and farm access road projects to be undertaken in the Chambord area. Information will be given on the possible start dates, the scope of work of the projects, and, to get feedback from the farmers to ensure the smooth implementation of the scheduled projects.
