Heavy rains were recorded in Kasserine, where 60 millimeters fell in a few hours, causing several wadis to overflow, climatology researcher Amer Bahba said on Friday evening.
This precipitation is part of weather disturbances accompanied by thunderstorms, having mainly affected the central-western and south-western regions of the country. The large quantities of water led to flows in several wadis and required the intervention of emergency services, in particular to come to the aid of a means of transport blocked in the region of Oum Laarayes, in the governorate of Gafsa.
According to the same source, 25 millimeters of rain were also recorded in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid during the past night.
Amer Bahba specified in a statement given to Diwan Fm that the intensity of these disturbances should gradually ease, while giving way to weak and localized rains, particularly in the eastern and southeastern regions.
He also announced a gradual improvement in weather conditions from tonight and during the coming days of May, with an expected increase in temperatures.
In a related context, a geography specialist estimated that these stormy episodes could resume next week, stressing that they constitute a usual phenomenon of transition periods between spring and summer.
