Police seized approximately 2.2 kilogrammes of cannabis during an anti-crime operation in Port-of-Spain on Tuesday.
The seizure was made during Operation B.L.A.S.T., which was conducted between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. by officers attached to several police units.
The operation was spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Senior Superintendent Ramnarine, Superintendent Ramsook and ASP Singh, and coordinated by Inspector Edwards and Sergeant Adams. Personnel from Charford Court, Duncan Street Post and the Canine Unit also participated.
Around 1:45 p.m., officers searched an abandoned apartment at Harpe Place, East Dry River, where they found a black plastic bag containing three packets of plant material resembling cannabis.
The material was taken to the Besson Street Police Station and weighed 862 grammes.
About 30 minutes later, at People’s Mall on Henry Street, PC Wallace reportedly noticed a black plastic bag lodged between two booths.
Upon retrieving the bag, officers found several plastic bags and small zip-lock bags containing plant material resembling cannabis. The contents weighed 680 grammes.
At about 3 p.m., officers conducted a search of a bushy area at Jackson Place, East Dry River.
During that search, PC Subero found a black plastic bag containing loose plant material and several packets containing similar material. The items weighed 635 grammes.
Police said the combined weight of the material seized from the three locations was approximately 2.2 kilogrammes.
The operation also involved the assistance of K9 Gino and members of the Canine Unit.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the operation concluded without incident, while the areas monitored were otherwise reported to be quiet and regular.
No arrests were reported in connection with the seizures.
