Primary schools could start the 2026-2027 academic year without iPads if the safety of these devices is not guaranteed for students. The Minister of Education, Ladislau Baró, has been definitive in stating that “before any doubt we will go to paper and pen rather than technology”, after revealing that fourth grade students at the Andorran school in Santa Coloma accessed sexual contentwhile doing cooperative work with the tablets. “We cannot give up on this, and we are doing a thorough analysis of what happened”the minister pointed out.
Xavier Campuzano, director of Higher Education, Research and Technological Innovation of the ministry, has detailed that the incident would have been caused by a Google security deficit. In the absence of finding out all the details, the Government is working with the hypothesis that a recent update of the company would have generated a deficit that bypasses the way to ensure access.
Students should access to content through Google Imagesand after clicking on an image that initially appeared blurry. In any case, the ministry has highlighted that the mechanisms were activated successfullyand the immediate withdrawal of the devices allowed no further cases to be detected. The problem would affect some 30 or 35 devices of the total of 150 which the primary education classrooms have. In any case, the executive has planned one face-to-face meeting with Google next Wednesday in Barcelona -after the virtual meetings held in the last few hours- to clarify all the details and ensure that it does not happen again.
