A 40-year-old woman has died nearly two months after suffering critical injuries in a crash at Sugar Ridge Resort.
Joanna “JoJo” Carlisle died on Tuesday after remaining in critical condition since May, when the golf cart she was driving was struck from behind by a car.
Following the crash, family and friends launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise €200,000—more than EC$615,000—to transfer Carlisle to a specialist hospital in Poland for advanced medical treatment.
In a statement announcing her death, Carlisle’s family thanked supporters for their donations, messages and prayers, saying the outpouring of kindness had been “a tremendous source of support” during the family’s ordeal.
The family also announced that the fundraiser’s purpose has changed. Rather than funding medical treatment, all money raised will now be used to support the education and future security of Carlisle’s children.
“We want to give them the best possible start and a sense of security for the years ahead—today, this is the most beautiful way to honor their mother’s memory,” the family said.
The circumstances surrounding the May collision remain under investigation.
