Did Sunday’s municipal convention deliver more than a defeat for Councilor Allan Pollard? Following his loss, Pollard posted a statement thanking his supporters and reflecting on the outcome, but his cryptic comments also raised questions about what the result revealed to him about the party he serves. Today, we asked PUP Chairman Henry Charles Usher whether the party had indeed sent Pollard a message. Here is what he told us.

“I think that Allan has a great future in this party. Allan is still young. He has served for almost nine years at the City Council. His term ends in February. He has worked with the party at numerous levels, serves the party, served the people in various capacities an he has a bright future in the party. Sunday was a tough convention for him. It is always tough when you go into these conventions, these types of situation where you can only have one winner coming out of a convention like that, so it will take some time to process everything. I am glad to see he put out that post. He and I spoke the night when the counting was almost completed. He addressed the media. He said how he felt . He thanked his supporters and pledged his support for the wining team, the winning slate headed by Deputy Eluide Miller. As I said he will continue to work in the party. I certainly as party chairman will continue to include him in whatever party matters that we have.”

“So he has not indicated whether he will step aside from the party, run independently, or anything as such?”

“Not whatsoever, he continues to be a strong supporter and member of the People’s United Party.”
