A strong earthquake was recorded on the morning of this Friday, July 17 in Mexico. The magnitude 7.4 earthquake had a superficial depth of less than 30 kilometers, according to the Colombian Geological Service. The event was recorded on video.
The seismic event occurred at 9:48 local time with the epicenter about 135 kilometers southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo, in the state of Chiapas. Users on social networks published the moments of tension that were experienced due to the earthquake.
This phenomenon also affected Guatemala and El Salvador. Minutes after the National Seismological Service in Mexico provided details of the earthquake, users on social networks stated that, apparently, The alert from their devices presented some failures to help in the prompt reaction of citizens.

After the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued this Friday for the southern coasts of Mexico and Guatemala, as indicated by the Tsunami Warning Center of the Secretary of the Navy (CAT-SEMAR).
The official bulletin indicates that the area most affected is the coast of Chiapas and Oaxaca, southern states of Mexico, where Sea level variations of up to 105 centimeters above the tide are expected.
