On April 27, 2026, the Vaduz municipal council approved a commitment loan of 500,000 francs for a feasibility study to redesign the town hall square and surrounding area. The capital municipality is thus taking the next concrete step in its long-term central development.
The town hall square is considered the heart of Vaduz: meeting point, event location and first impression for visitors to the town. The local council had already decided in June 2024 to abandon the previous provisional tent solutions and temporary infrastructure. In the future, a permanent roof is to be created – a solid, light construction that allows flexible use for events, culture and club life while at the same time preserving the open character of the area.
In order to expand the scope for action, the municipality acquired the properties Städtle 18, 20 and 22 in the area around the square in 2025.
The redesign is embedded in the 2018 center strategy, which was developed in a broad-based participation process with the population. The first implementation step was the marketplace with a mobility hub; With the town hall square, the second central area is now being addressed.
The feasibility study not only examines the square itself, but also includes the adjacent areas – from the current coach terminal to the art museum as well as the development of the newly acquired properties. The aim is to create a consistent urban development solution for this sensitive location.
The study should be available by spring 2027. The local council will then decide on a commitment loan, which will probably also be presented to voters for a vote. An architectural competition is planned afterwards. Realization is planned for 2030.
