Washington/The Democratic opposition has a 77% chance of taking the majority in the House of Representatives from the Republicans and a 56% chance of recovering the Senate in the midterm elections on November 3 in the United States, according to an analysis published this Thursday by Decision Desk HQ.
The poll aggregator estimates that, based on current trends, Democrats would obtain 235 seats in the Lower House, compared to 200 for Republicans. The majority stands at 218 seats.
Currently, Republicans hold a slim majority of 219 seats, compared to 214 for Democrats.
Of the 435 congressional districts that make up the House of Representatives, there are only ten in which the race is close: two in Texas, two in North Carolina and one each in Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
In the Senate, the Democrats have it a little more complicated, since they need to keep all the seats up for grabs and take at least four from the Republicans to reach the majority.
In the Senate, which will renew 35 of its 100 seats, the Democrats have it a little more complicated, since they need to keep all the seats up for grabs and snatch at least four from the Republicans to reach the majority.
Decision Desk HQ projects a very tight Democratic majority of 51 seats, compared to 49 for the Republicans.
According to the poll average, the race is practically tied in four states currently controlled by Republicans: Iowa, Ohio, Maine and Texas.
Likewise, Democrats have a slight advantage in Alaska and Michigan, while Republicans maintain the same by a narrow margin in Kansas and South Carolina.
US President Donald Trump has thrown himself into the electoral campaign with a series of rallies in decisive states to try to mobilize his bases, while the possibility that Democrats will initiate an impeachment trial is gaining weight (impeachment) against the president if they achieve a majority in Congress.
