USA at UNSC: Peace between Kosovo and Serbia is essential, President Trump admires both countries

Tammy Bruce, the deputy representative of the American mission to the UN, has said that peace between Kosovo and Serbia can only be achieved by those two, and not by the Security Council.
In her speech at the UNSC, where the UNMIK chief’s 6-month report is being discussed, she said that President Donald Trump admires both Kosovo and Serbia, and seeks peace, stability and prosperity from the Balkans.
“Peace between Kosovo and Serbia is not only essential. President Trump admires both countries and wants peace, stability and prosperity. In this regard, we call on both sides to show restraint, take practical steps towards building trust and maintaining stability, and engage constructively in dialogue.”
“Long-term progress will come from Pristina and Belgrade, not from the Security Council,” declared the deputy American representative to the UN, Klankosova.tv reports.
Bruce said that the Security Council should shut down UNMIK because today’s Kosovo is not that of 1999.
“We observe an overrun mission. We cannot claim that the mission has any significant role in the governance of Kosovo. KFOR, the EU, the OSCE and several other UN agencies are present, and much better positioned to carry out the limited work that UNMIK continues to do. What remains is an overstaffed peacekeeping mission without peacekeepers. Keeping a peacekeeping mission after it has done its job helps no one, but it also harms the vulnerable. Our inability to review UNMIK’s permanent mandate is a serious warning sign of the dysfunction of the UN system, it is our inability to act when the moment calls for action. We can keep UNMIK or we can be good hosts of the UN’s assets,” declared Tammy Bruce.
The time of this mission, according to her, has ended.
