The US military launched fresh strikes on military targets in Iran for the 12th consecutive night.
The strikes began at 1 am on Thursday in Iran (2130 GMT on Wednesday) and ended about five hours later, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X.
The strikes had hit Iranian military targets, including maritime capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites and air defence assets, CENTCOM said.
“The strikes further degrade Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels.”
Since resuming its blockade of Iranian ports, CENTCOM had redirected nine commercial vessels and disabled another, it added.
Earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said at an event in the US state of Georgia that he did not believe Iran was ready to reach a deal.
Whenever Tehran agreed to a compromise, it then sought to change it, Trump said.
“They’re not ready. They’ll be ready very soon,” he said, in remarks that could be interpreted as an indirect threat.
Earlier in the day, Trump had issued a more explicit warning, saying the United States would “bomb and destroy” a bridge or power plant in Iran every time the country attacked a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
Bridges and power stations in Tehran or near the Iranian capital would also be targeted, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Meanwhile, the US has deployed more forces to the region, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Troops, medics and weaponry had been sent to the Middle East from the US, the report said, citing flight-tracking data and US officials.
A ceasefire between Iran and the US agreed in mid-June has all but collapsed, with fighting erupting this month over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments that remains effectively closed.
The US has been launching daytime and nighttime strikes on targets in Iran, while Tehran has fired at US allies and military assets across the region.
