Miami/The US president, Donald Trump, stated this Friday at a rally in Florida that US ships will “pass” through Cuba after the war in Iran and that the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will be in charge of resolving the situation on the island.
“What we are going to do with Cuba is that we are going to return from Iran, those beautiful ships, we will pass through Cuba, we will make one of them stop about 50 yards (45 meters) from the coast. They will raise their hands and then we will send Marco Rubio to close the agreement,” commented the president at an electoral event in Fort Myers, on the west coast of Florida.
Trump made these comments when answering questions from one of the voters during his rally in Florida, the state with the largest population of Cuban origin in the United States.
“He wants to know what’s happening with Cuba. Please give me a break. Give me a break. Don’t worry. We will take care of Cuba upon our return from Iran. We will make a small stopover,” he said.
“We won the war in Venezuela in a single day, and now we are working with them to produce millions and millions of barrels of oil a week”
The president maintained that the United States Government can “just put” Rubio “there, and he will solve it,” calling him “a great guy.”
Precisely this Friday, the Secretary of State encouraged Cubans, from their networks, to collaborate with the US secret services. “To those who seek to generate positive change in Cuba: this is the moment,” wrote in X. “Faced with the disappointment of broken promises, corruption, and the privileged lives of a few, take this opportunity to bring about the change you desire through discreet collaboration with the CIA.”
During his comments, the president cited the United States military operation in Venezuela that in January led to the capture of the deposed Venezuelan ruler Nicolás Maduro, who faces charges related to drug trafficking, among others, in New York.
“We captured and brought to justice the fugitive dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who is now awaiting trial. And we won the war in Venezuela in a single day, and now we are working with them to produce millions and millions of barrels of oil a week,” he said.
Trump has increased pressure on Havana during his mandate, with sanctions on companies that Washington links to the Island’s Government and an energy fence to prevent Cuba from importing fuel.
Trump’s statements come in the middle of the election campaign in Florida, where authorities announced on Monday an arrest warrant against former Cuban President Raúl Castro for the downing of small planes belonging to the American organization Brothers to the Rescue in 1996, when he was Minister of the Armed Forces.
