A 55-year-old woman was overpowered by bandits and pistol-whipped with her own firearm during a robbery at her Tunapuna home on Wednesday night.
Police said the woman arrived at her Tunapuna Road home around 11 pm and was walking up the staircase when she noticed two men following her.
She reached into her handbag for her licensed Glock 43 pistol and fired a shot in their direction but missed.
The men then reportedly overpowered her, grabbed the firearm and struck her with it before snatching her handbag, which contained her cellphone, bank cards and $250 in cash.
The attackers fled with the handbag and firearm.
Police said the Glock contained a magazine with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Tunapuna police were called in and are continuing enquiries.
