Police are investigating two separate shootings over the weekend, one that left a man dead in western Belize and another that injured a 19-year-old in Belize City.
According to police, 25-year-old twin brothers Denvoy and Delroy Bartley were socialising with others on Saturday in Unitedville at approximately 8:34pm when “a male person emerged from the bushes and fired several shots toward the group”.
Denvoy sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on arrival at Western Regional Hospital. Delroy was also injured but remains in stable condition.
Investigators have not disclosed a motive for the twin’s shooting.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating a shooting in Belize City that left a 19-year-old construction worker, Arnize Young, injured. According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 5 o’clock. Police said Young was walking along Cemetery Road when “two male persons on a motorcycle fired several shots in his direction, causing him to sustain injuries.” Young’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
