The United States Department of State, led by Marco Rubio, announced this September 28 the revocation of the visas of Senator Martha Peralta and businessman Euclides Torres, as well as those of their relatives, for “undermine democratically elected governments”.
This is a decision that is part of the Shield of the Americas policy, an initiative to which Colombia subscribed. “Under the Trump administration, corrupt foreign officials can no longer freely enter the United States. (…) These visa restriction measures are adopted under section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), which prohibits entry to those whose entry or proposed activities have potentially serious adverse consequences for the foreign policy of our country.”says a document issued by this entity.
Peralta and Torres are people close to the government of former President Gustavo Petro and join the names included on the sanctioned list. Now, there were also former officials of that administration whose visas were revoked by the US.

The list of people whose visas were revoked by the United States Department of State is as follows:
- Edwin Palma, former Minister of Mines and Energy.
- Angie Rodriguez, former director of Dapre.
- Juan Carlos Florián, former Minister of Equality and Equity.
It is important to note that former President Gustavo Petro has had his US visa canceled since September 2025, after the former president participated in an event in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in which he urged the US military to disobey orders from his Government in relation to the war in Gaza.

However, the former president obtained a temporary visa that allowed him to attend a meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington in February of this year.

At that time, after the announcement of the visa revocation of former President Gustavo Petro, some of its officials decided to voluntarily renounce their visas. These were their names:
- Rusinque Heaven, former superintendent of Industry and Commerce.
- Augusto Ocampo, former legal secretary of the Presidency.
- Germán Ávila, former Minister of Finance and Public Credit.
- Rosa Villavicencio, former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
