Nanna Moller16 years old, left a clear mark on the championships. She won all the races she entered – although she had to stand over the 10km distance on the opening day due to illness.
The women’s field was generally characterized by a strong youth generation. Marika Magnussen (18) and Sasja Joelsen Hendriksen (19) were both at the forefront and, together with the more experienced Olympic participant Ukaleq Slettemark (24), helped ensure a high level in the competitions.
This year’s Greenland cross-country skiing championships in Nuuk clearly pointed in one direction: the young runners are really getting a foothold at the top – especially among the women.
This is what the cross-country committee writes in a press release.
For the men, the picture was more clear. Bent Salling put his weight on the competitions and won all distances. In the sprint, however, he was challenged by 18-year-old Qunaaq Jensen, who showed promising pace.
The organizing club NUP was behind a very nice and well-run championship in Nuuk. The championships brought together participants across generations – from children to veterans – and also featured participation from para-athletes. It emphasized both the breadth and development of Greenlandic cross-country skiing.
