The Union of Andorra (USdA) has reaffirmed the commitment to continue defending the claims that Gabriel Ubach pushed for more than a quarter of a century, according to a statement. The organization considers that keeping this work alive is the best tribute which can be blamed on its general secretary, whose career and dedication to the defense of workers’ rights stands out. The statement is signed by him John Torre Vinyal as first secretary and treasurer and announces that he is appointed Gabriel Ubach Honorary General Secretary of the union
The USdA has thanked the expressions of condolence, affection and recognition received from different areas of Andorran society, as well as those that have arrived since European trade union movement. The union points out that this support shows the footprint than Ubach left both in Andorra and beyond its borders.
The statement recalls that Ubach’s trade union career was marked by the defense of freedom and trade union protection, collective bargaining, collective agreements, decent wagesthe maintenance of purchasing power, pensions and the effective recognition of labor rights. And he points out that many of the claims he defended are still fully present in the social and labor debate.
The union points out that Ubach focused a large part of the demands on what he described as “runaway growth” of the country And that he particularly denounced thereal estate speculation and housing prices, which he considered a threat to the permanence of workers, young people, pensioners and families in Andorra.
The trade unionist warned that this model could end up expelling people who, after years of living and contributing to the development of the country, could no longer bear the cost of continuing to reside there. Ubach defended that Frrogrés had to allow people to live and work with dignity in the Principality.
