Today, Thursday, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, offered his sincere condolences to the victims of the fire that broke out at dawn today, Thursday, in the orphanage in Mohammedia, and left a heavy initial toll, represented by 11 deaths and 19 injured.
The President expressed Condolence message Which was published on the Facebook account of the Presidency of the Republic, expressing his deep emotion at hearing the news of the death of children and the injury of others from Algeria, especially since this tragedy occurred the day after the commemoration of National Children’s Day. He also prayed to God that His mercy be upon the victims and that he grant the injured a speedy recovery.
For his part, Prime Minister Seifi Gharib led a ministerial delegation to check on the health status of those injured in the fire, and he also conveyed the condolences of the President of the Republic to the families of the victims.
Gharib said: “On behalf of the President of the Republic, I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing God Almighty to rest them in His spacious paradise,” adding: “During our transportation to the Major Burns Hospital in Zeralda and Mustafa Pasha University Hospital, we were given all the necessary instructions to take care of the injured.”
The Prime Minister was accompanied on this visit by the Minister of the Interior, Local Communities and Urban Planning, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, and the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues, in order to determine the health status of the injured and the conditions for caring for them, and to see the level of medical care provided to them.
In the same context, the person in charge of information at the General Directorate of Civil Protection, Karim Ben Fahsi, told Shorouk News that the competent authorities have opened an in-depth investigation to uncover the causes of this incident that affected all Algerians, and to determine all the circumstances of the fire, in conjunction with the continuation of intervention and follow-up operations at the site.
Civil Protection explained that it intervened at 03:32 to extinguish the fire, employing 6 fire trucks, 6 ambulances, the Rough Areas Intervention Team (GRIMP), a mechanical ladder truck, in addition to support from the National Training and Intervention Unit.
Civil Defense had announced in an initial toll that 16 injured people were recorded suffering from burns and shortness of breath, before the toll later rose to 11 deaths and 19 injured, Among them were 10 people with burns of varying severity, two people suffering from shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, and 7 people who suffered psychological shock.
The rescue teams were also able to evacuate 5 people with special needs and transfer them to a safe place, while extinguishing and inspection operations are still continuing, awaiting the announcement of the final toll and the uncovering of the causes of the fire.
