The San Marino Christian Democratic Party brings its experience to the European debate on the future of Christian democracy and the challenge of extremism. A PDCS delegation, composed of the political secretary Gian Carlo Venturini, the head of international relations Lorenzo Bugli and the general secretary of the Young Christian Democrats Emanuele Cangini, participated in the presentation of the volume in Rome Christian Democracy, conservatism and the challenge of extremismpublished by Rubbettino and edited by Klaus Welle and Federico Ottavio Reho.
The meeting, promoted by the Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies, political foundation of the European People’s Party, addressed the future of the European centre-right, the relationship between popular and conservatives and the defense of the post-war democratic order.
The Italian edition of the volume, created with the contribution of various foundations and institutes, also includes a chapter by Lorenzo Muccioli dedicated to San Marino and the PDCS, indicated as an example of continuity of the Christian democratic tradition. Born in 1948, the party has gone through almost eighty years of history maintaining a role in the institutions and society of San Marino.
At the center of the reflection is the belief that the political dividing line does not pass only between popular, conservative and liberal, but between those who believe in the European project and those who question its value.
For the PDCS, the principles of the centrality of the person, subsidiarity, the common good and European integration remain relevant, especially in a context marked by conflicts and polarization. A tradition which, according to the party, can continue to offer a concrete contribution to the future of Europe and the Republic of San Marino.
