On April 23, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/OHCHR) approved the decision to deploy an observation mission to Armenia for the purpose of observing the June 7, 2026 parliamentary elections.
The mission was formed based on the invitation of the RA authorities and is justified by the results of the pre-election needs assessment.
“Armenpress”According to the report, the mission’s main team consisting of 13 experts will operate in Yerevan under the leadership of Yanez Lenarchic.
From May 1, 30 long-term observers will work throughout the country. ODIHR will also deploy 250 short-term observers who will arrive in Armenia a few days before the elections.
Experts and long-term observers of the core team are representatives of 28 OSCE member states.
“This observation mission will evaluate all stages of the electoral process in the light of OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards of democratic elections. We will observe not only the elections themselves, but also the environment in which they will take place,” Lenarchic said.
A statement released by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights states that the mission will closely observe all key election processes, including election campaigning (including on social media), campaign financing, election administration at the national, regional and community levels, the legal framework, institutional mechanisms put in place by the authorities to detect disinformation, media coverage and the electoral dispute resolution process.
Observers will also assess progress in implementing previous ODIHR recommendations.
“Within the framework of our observation, we will meet with the stakeholders involved in the electoral processes and affected by these processes (from the authorities and political parties to civil society, media and the international community) both in the capital and throughout the country. This approach will allow us to form a comprehensive and balanced understanding of the ongoing electoral processes in the entire territory of Armenia,” said Lenarchich.
On election day, delegations from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament will join the efforts of the ODIHR mission.
About two weeks before the elections, ODIHR will issue an interim report to inform the public and the media about the activities of the observation mission.
On the day after the elections, the preliminary conclusions and results of the mission will be presented during a joint press conference.
The final report, which will provide a comprehensive assessment and recommendations for improving the process, will be published in the months following the election.
