MANILA, Philippines — Chairman emeritus and owner of The Manila Times broadsheet, Dante Arevalo Ang Sr., has died at the age of 83.
The Manila Times announced Ang’s passing on Tuesday night. He was supposed to turn 84 on June 27.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of The Manila Times Chairman Emeritus Dante Arevalo Ang, DBA — a father, journalist, publisher and public servant whose life was defined by purpose, vision and integrity,” the broadsheet said in announcement.

No further details were shared regarding Ang’s passing apart from details of his wake which will begin on May 6, 2026, 10 a.m. onwards at Manila Memorial Park-Sucat, Dr. Santos Avenue in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City.
A funeral is also set to be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at The Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Saint Joseph, Bamboo Organ Church, 1742 Quirino Avenue, Las Piñas City.
Aside from being the chairman emeritus of The Manila Times since buying the broadsheet from its previous owner in 2001, Ang also served as former President Gloria Arroyo’s publicist from 1993 to 2003.
He also served as chair of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas from 2005 to 2010, as well as former President Rodrigo Duterte’s special envoy for international public relations in 2017. /mr
