The Land Registry begins the parliamentary journey in Andorra after 80 years

The future Property Registry has already started the parliamentary way after it was raised as a necessity for first time in 1939as recalled by the counselor of FrS Susanna Vela. The head of government, Xavier Espotdefended that the initiative has a “great importance” because it will make it possible to strengthen transparency in real estate operations and give more guarantees to the rights linked to real estate. Espot positioned the future registration as a “constitutional milestone”, aligned with European standards and adapted to the increasing complexity of transactions in the country.

As he defended, the new institution must contribute to better protect property and order the market more clearly.

The social democratic councilor Susanna Vela agreed on the need for registration, but stressed that it is not only a tool for notaries, lawyers or professionals in the sectorbut a “basic instrument for any modern state”. “We celebrate, but it’s late“, he affirmed, while warning that the register will not solve the housing problem by itself, but it will help to have data. The proposal foresees a public register, centralized and with jurisdiction over the entire territory.
