: The Government of Andorra gives 250 more immigration permits to hotels and restaurants to guarantee service during the summer

    Dolores Moreno

The hotel and restaurant sector will have 250 more immigration permits to face the tourist season with guarantees. After selling out in record time the authorizations initially granted by the Government500 plus the extra 150 allowed by the regulation – exactly the same as those given last year – the executive has accepted the business demand to expand the quota. The person in charge of announcing it was the Minister of Economy and Housing, Conxita Marsolwho yesterday acted as spokesperson in the press conference following the council of ministers. “The Government it responds to the needs of the business sector”, he said marsol. Last week the decision taken by the ministerial cabinet in the face of the need for manpower expressed by the sectors was to request that staff shortages be facilitated and justified; companies had until Monday to do so. Based on the information received by the Ministry of Interior the number of extra authorizations has been decided. marsol he insisted that difficulties had been exposed in providing the service, problems in having the establishments fully operational and “we have adapted to what the employers have justified”. As he was able to find out diarythe number of workers that restaurateurs and hoteliers had communicated that they had to incorporate to guarantee the operation of the businesses was close to 300.

“We have adapted to what employers have justified (regarding personnel needs)”Conxita Marsol, Economics teacher

The new quota regulation will be published in a BOPA extraordinary tomorrow to be able to immediately activate the new hires. One of the particularities of the new quota is that there will be a cap per company to facilitate a more equitable distribution of the new authorizations. “There is a maximum of ten permits per company to give opportunities also to the little ones”, he explained Marsl. The minister argued that activating this recruitment lever had also become necessary considering the low unemployment figures, which force people to go abroad to look for workers. All in all, he added, a symptom that “the country works economically, they are consequences of this economic bonanza”, the country attracts tourists and they must be able to give them an optimal service.

“Construction and other sectors have made demands, but the summer quota has been prioritized”Conxita Marsol, Economics teacher

    The minister spokesperson, yesterday.

But the question of quotas now has another derivative, the need to limit them to control population growth. In this case, he recalled marsolit’s about temporary permits that “they expire in November and then these workers have to leave, the general quota is another procedure”. And the will, he clarified, is “above all to control the general”, which is what generates residence and work permits stable and affects the population census.

    Construction and the rest

But labor needs are widespread and especially construction has expressed concern for no longer have a migration quota availablebecause the summer contingent was sold out in record time and also the advanced authorizations of the autumn general that were approved at the end of June, which were the ones he could use. “Construction and other sectors have made demands, but the summer has been prioritized”, he indicated marsolwhile remembering that the most important right now is ensure the operation of businesses in peak tourist season. On whether or not there will be any measure to help the rest of the sectors, the minister indicated that no decision had been taken and recalled that the advances approved will be subtracted from the autumn quota to affect this growth control policy.

    Conxita Marsol

After the summer, the minister also hopes to have resolved the new regulation that must put filters on the authorization of new businesses that need a large injection of personnel, a regulation that hangs from the second Omnibus law. Conxita Marsol pointed out that a first meeting had already taken place between the ministries concerned (his and also those of Tourism and Commerce and Justice and Interior) and that it is being worked on. The Minister of Economy he pointed out that the affected businesses will have to present complementary studies, such as where the workers they need to hire will live. “Before starting the project, before the work permit, they will have to justify it”, he indicated. Right now, there is no project of these characteristics pending to obtain the endorsement and that is why we are working “quietly”, although the ministerial manager assured that it is given priority.

NEW STEP FOR THE RESONANCE ROOM

The meeting of the council of ministers gave the green light to the awarding of the Drafting of the project and construction management of the new hospital space which must accommodate a state-of-the-art nuclear magnetic resonance equipment. The person in charge of the task is the architect Jorge Vitullo. This is the step prior to the bidding and execution of the works and will have a cost of 33,500 euros. The new equipment will allow to do tests of high diagnostic accuracy within the public health system, reduce external referrals and waiting times, avoid the duplication of scans and minimize travel of patients, as the executive recalled.
