The men’s national team of the Republic Dominican secured the bronze medal in the team competitions of the Central American and Caribbean Senior Table Tennis Championships held in the Parque del Este.
The Quisqueyan representation, made up of Ramón Vila, Rafael Cabrera, Abit Tejada and Isaac Vila, beat the representative of El Salvador 3 sets to 0.
Meanwhile, the women’s team, made up of Yasiris Ortiz, Eva Brito, Esmerlyn Castro and Arianna Estrella, remained in the quarterfinals after losing 3-0 to Cuba.
The championships are supported by ITTF, ITTF Americas, Inefi, GPA y Asociados, Fedoteme, Dominican Olympic Committee, Baldom, Creso, Concateme, RH Mejía, Santo Domingo 2026, Vive por un Sueño, Ministry of Sports, Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF).
Opening ceremony
Engineer Gary Hernández, president of the Dominican Table Tennis Federation (Fedoteme), and the immortal of Sports and president of ITTF Americas, Mr. Juan Vila Reinoso, led the opening ceremony of the events of this sport that began last Monday with the Central American and Caribbean qualifier.
Also at the event were Chen Luning, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in the country; the Vice Minister of Sports, Franklin De la Mota, representing the Minister of that portfolio Kelvin Cruz, as well as Professor Fernando Teruel, Vice Minister of Sports.
Also present were Geovanny Cruceta, general secretary of ITTF Americas; Alexander Zamora, head of the Central American Table Tennis Confederation; Vasdevbob Roopnarine, representing the president of the Caribbean Regional Confederation of that discipline, Teddy Mathews, as well as presidents of table tennis federations from different countries.
