In the build up to their first ever international match last year, Marshall Islands laid claim to being the last nation on earth without a national soccer team.
But the volunteers involved in the project to get a team from Naoero out on the pitch by 2030 would beg to differ.
They are led by English coach, Charlie Pomroy, who is also involved in a development project in India, having previously founded Angkor City F-C in Cambodia.
He says it was right to step aside and let the Marshalls enjoy their time in the spotlight, but now it’s Naoero’s turn, and rather than scanning the diaspora for talent, Pomroy’s aim is to create a team made up entirely of players from the island.
