    St. Petersburg Economic Forum to host participants from 130 nations. Who will represent Belarus?


    MOSCOW, 3 June (BelTA) – The 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will take place on 3-6 June. The event, held annually under the patronage of the Russian president, will gather more than 20,000 participants from 130 countries this year, BelTA learned from the Kremlin press service.

    High-ranking government officials and politicians from over 75 countries will also arrive in St. Petersburg, including representatives from Belarus, China, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Yemen, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Lebanon, Myanmar, Nicaragua, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Uzbekistan, Uruguay, the Central African Republic, and Tanzania. The forum will also be attended by heads of several regional and international organizations, including the CIS, CSTO, APEC, OPEC, UNCTAD, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Union State, the Eurasian Development Bank, and others.

    A special panel discussion titled The Union State: Time to Be First, dedicated to the development of Belarusian-Russian cooperation, will take place at SPIEF on 4 June. Representing Belarus will be Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov, Vitebsk Oblast Governor Aleksandr Rogozhnik, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Standardization Yelena Morgunova, Minsk First Vice Mayor Aleksandr Komendant, and Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vitaly Vabishchevich. Russia will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Security Council, the ministries of transport, economic development, industry and trade, and the heads of Bashkortostan, Smolensk Oblast and Vologda Oblast. The discussion will be moderated by Sergey Glazyev, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

    Heads of Belarusian ministries, agencies, and enterprises will also take part in several panel discussions at the forum, including BRICS is What Unites Us: Shared Victories and New Opportunities for Women’s Business, The Digital Future: Shared Development Pathways, Challenges, and Solutions, International E-Commerce: New Opportunities or New Barriers, The Role of EAEU Member States in Shaping International Agricultural Markets, and The Future of the Olympic Movement: Challenges and Prospects.

    The forum’s central event will be the plenary session on 5 June, featuring an address by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Joining the Russian leader will be Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, and Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman, who will also speak at the session.

    On 4 June, on the sidelines of SPIEF, Vladimir Putin will hold his traditional meeting with heads of international news agencies. Among the participants will be BelTA Director General Andrei Mokhor. The meeting will take the form of a Q&A session and will focus on current aspects of Russia’s domestic and foreign policy, as well as key international events.

    The SPIEF program includes over 300 business events, including panel discussions, thematic roundtables, and business breakfasts. In addition to the main business program, the forum will host the SCO Business Forum, BRICS Business Forum, the regional consultative B20 Forum, SME Forum, Creative Industries Forum, Drug Security Forum, and Day of the Future Youth Forum.
