On Sunday, the Werdenberg–Liechtenstein slow-up once again got many people moving. By mid-morning, the closed main roads between Sennwald and Plattis and from Vaduz to Ruggell were already filling up with cyclists, people on inline skates and pedestrians. As the organizing committee mentioned in a press release, it recorded around 44,000 participants, a new record.
The slow-up was carried out jointly by the Werdenberg region and Liechtenstein for the 19th time. The event was opened in the morning in Buchs by Andreas Bernold, mayor of Wartau and president of the Slow-up Werdenberg–Liechtenstein sponsoring association, as well as by Rolf Pfeiffer, mayor of Buchs, and government councilor Hubert Büchel. They welcomed the participants before the official opening of the route and acknowledged the event as a connecting element in the shared living space between Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Their thanks went in particular to the numerous helpers and the clubs involved.
Ten communities took part along the route, which was closed to motorized traffic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to the movement, the focus was also on experiencing the region together. There were various opportunities to linger and participate along the route. Despite the closure of central traffic axes, there were no significant traffic problems, as the media release states. Overall, the event was quiet.
The Slow-Up has taken place annually since 2006 and is one of the established events in the region. The next edition is scheduled for May 2, 2027.
