An image of a demonstration against the USA in Nuuk is among five candidates for Press Photo of the Year 2025.
A photo from Nuuk is in the running for the award for the year’s best press photo.
It is clear after the Press Photographers’ Association published five nominated photos for the award on Friday.
Among the five is a photo taken by photojournalist Oscar Scott Carl, who is employed by Sermitsiaq.
The picture is from the large demonstration against the USA, which took place on March 15, 2025.
The Press Photographers’ Association writes about the selection of the image:
“Greenland has been the center of Denmark’s biggest foreign policy crisis since the Second World War, but the challenge has also created a new understanding for the Greenlanders here at home and not least a renewed solidarity, which is conveyed in Oscar Scott Carl’s picture from an important demonstration in Nuuk.”
Photojournalist: It was very moving to cover the historic event
Oscar Scott Carl says that it means a lot to him that this particular image has been chosen:
– It was a historic event that took place, and an event that has stuck with many. That image is very characteristic of the year we had in Greenland, says Oscar Scott Carl about the nomination and continues:
– The fact that so many took to the streets testifies to great unity in a time which was difficult and continues to be difficult for many in Greenland. It was very moving to cover because there were so many people and you could feel that there was a lot of play, says Oscar Scott Carl.
The winner of the Press Photo of the Year will be revealed on 6 March in Den Sorte Diamant in Copenhagen.
