The school architectures of the San Marino designer become the protagonists of an issue that tells the story of the relationship between school, territory and community
SAN MARINO – Some places are not just buildings, but are spaces capable of accompanying the growth and future of entire generations. The schools designed by the engineer Gilberto Rossini belong precisely to this category: architecture designed to welcome, educate and dialogue with the territory, becoming an integral part of the life of the San Marino community.
The new philatelic issue of Poste San Marino is dedicated to these important testimonies of the Republic’s architectural heritage, which, through a stamp and three letter seals, tells of some of the schools designed by the engineer. Rossini, a central figure who contributed to the cultural growth and transformation of the urban spaces of San Marino.
Head of the State Technical Office from 1961 to 1996, Rossini paid particular attention to buildings intended for education. Its schools were conceived as open places, in relationship with the surrounding environment and respectful of the needs of young students: spaces to live in, in which nature and architecture meet.
The protagonist of the stamp with a value of 0.95 euros is the Cailungo nursery school, while the three letter seals are dedicated to the Murata elementary school and that of Cà Caccio, the latter also represented in the third letter seal through an image of the construction site.
Rossini’s professional career also extends to the creation of other important projects for public places in the San Marino territory, from the Cinema Teatro Turismo to the Church of Borgo Maggiore, the execution of which he directed based on the design of his master, the architect Giovanni Michelucci, confirming a vision of architecture that is always attentive to the context and the community.
His works have also obtained recognition and space in the main sector magazines, and at the 9th Venice Architecture Biennale.
The issue, available from Monday 21 September 2026is enriched by a special QR Code, which will allow access to the documentary “Un’idea di Città” by Massimo Salvucci, dedicated to Rossini’s works.
