RIMINI – Ryanair will open an operational base at Rimini Federico Fellini Airport in summer 2027, with two aircraft and an announced investment of 200 million dollars. The Irish airline plans 17 connections, five of which are new, for a total of 114 weekly flights and over 600,000 seats available, double compared to 2025.
The new destinations will be Dublin, Memmingen, Stockholm, Tirana and Warsaw, expanding the Riviera’s connections with Northern Europe, Germany, the Balkans and Central-Eastern Europe. The opening of the base will support more than 500 local jobs, including those for pilots and cabin crew, the company estimates.
The investment was favored by the decision of the Emilia-Romagna Region to intervene on the municipal surtax on boarding fees. “When governments reduce access costs, Ryanair responds by investing, increasing capacity and connectivity,” he said Eddie WilsonCEO of the company, thanking the Region for the measures adopted.
For Leonardo CorbucciCEO of AIRiminum, the choice of Ryanair represents a significant step in the development of the airport. The declared objective for 2027 is to surpass the previous traffic record of 2011 and reach one million passengers for the first time.
“The new Ryanair base represents one of the fundamental pillars of this long-term industrial project”, underlined Corbucci, highlighting the opportunities for tourism, businesses and the trade fair and conference system of Romagna.
The president of the Emilia-Romagna Region Michele de Pascale he recalled the regional investments for the airport system, exceeding 4 million euros per year, of which approximately 2 million are intended to support the costs of the municipal surtax at the airports of Rimini, Forlì and Parma.
Fellini, according to data communicated by the Region, recorded an increase in passenger traffic of 44.8% in the first eight months of 2026, with a growth of 64.4% in the month of August alone. Enhancement works worth 12 million euros are also planned.
The regional councilors Roberta Frisoni And Irene Priolo have highlighted the need to accompany the increase in air connections with the improvement of public and rail transport, to facilitate tourist travel to the various destinations in Emilia-Romagna.
Satisfaction was also expressed by the mayors of the coast, Filippo Giorgetti, Jamil Sadegholvaad, Daniela Angelini, Fabrizio Piccioni And Franca Foronchiwho consider the new connections an opportunity to strengthen the international attractiveness of the Riviera.
To celebrate the announcement, Ryanair has launched a limited-time promotion with fares starting from €29.99 for new summer 2027 routes.
