River flows have been below the reference period during the three summer months, according to the data from the 2026 Water Resource Monitoring Bulletin. Specifically, the anomaly with respect to the average of the period 2016-2025 was 25% in June, 52% in July and 25% in August at the A403 station, located in Borda del Sabater.
Regarding flow values, a in August the station recorded 2 cubic meters per secondcompared to the 3 cubic meters per second in August 2025 and the 3 cubic meters per second corresponding to the average of the last ten years. In July, the flow was 2.5 cubic meters per secondcompared to 3.5 in the previous year and 4.5 on average in the reference period. In June, 7.5 cubic meters per second were recordedcompared to 6 in 2025 and 11.5 on average over the last ten years.
AR+I researcher Oriol Travesset explained that the evolution of the flow during 2026 has not been homogeneous throughout the year. As he detailed, the first months have been characterized, in general, by positive anomalies, with flows slightly higher than usual. This trend continued until May, while thereafter the records started to fall below normal.
travesset has specified that the months of June and July presented flows lower than normal, while during in August the records have approached the usual valueswhile still remaining slightly below. In this sense, he remarked that the current August anomaly, around 25% below the reference period, it cannot be considered alarming and he pointed out that there have been years when flows on these dates have been even lower.
the researcher has put the focus, however, on the evolution of the coming weeks. As he explained, the end of summer and the beginning of autumn can be a delicate period in terms of water availabilityespecially if the autumn rains do not arrive. In this sense, he has pointed out that this situation can be prolonged during the months of September and even October, depending on the arrival of precipitation.
The data in the newsletter correspond to the A403 stationin Borda del Sabater, and compare the monthly flows of 2026 with the 2016-2025 reference period.
