the project Catering has recovered 617 kilos of food during its first year of operation, an amount that has translated into 3,085 rations from the canteen’s surplus Calones. The initiative has also contributed to avoiding the emission of 9,131 kilos of carbon dioxide, according to data made public by the municipality ofAndorra la Vella. The more than 3,000 rations recovered equate to an average of nearly nine meals a day throughout the first twelve months of the project. The food, once verified and packaged in accordance with food safety guarantees, is distributed through a refrigerated vending machine installed in the lobby of the Congress Center.
The councilor of Social, Youth and Citizen Space, Maria Nazzaropositively assessed the results achieved and assured that Rexcatering “has established itself as a useful tool to encourage more responsible consumption and take advantage of food that is still fit for consumption”.
Catering is an initiative promoted by cman from Andorra la Vella in collaboration with the Fundació Residuo Cero and with the support of the Platform Aprofitem les Aliments (PAA), with the aim of giving a second chance to food surpluses generated in the kitchen of the Calones dining room.
