To Coruña/Cuban singer Raquel Capote will star in the concert Pablo Milanés: Cuba in the voice of a universal poeta tribute to one of the great exponents of Cuban Nueva Trova. The presentation will bring together some of the most representative compositions of the singer-songwriter, who died in Madrid in November 2022, whose repertoire continues to be performed by musicians of different generations.
Capote will be accompanied by César Páez on guitar, Frank Pereira on Cuban tres, Carlos Miyares on saxophone and William Blanco on percussion. The combination of these instruments will allow Milanés’ songs to be approached from a sound that incorporates elements of trova, son and jazz.
Pablo Milanés (Bayamo, 1943-Madrid, 2022) was one of the fundamental figures of Latin American songwriting. A member of the Nueva Trova movement, he developed an extensive career marked by the combination of poetry, social commitment and a musical sensitivity that incorporated influences from the filin, the bolero and the Cuban troubadour tradition. Among his best-known compositions are Yolanda, To Live, The Brief Space in Which You Are Not and Years.
Raquel Capote’s proposal is part of the tributes that keep the work of the Cuban musician current, whose songs have transcended borders and generations. The show will focus on his legacy.
