The week begins and it is time to find out how the value of the dollar has moved to Mexican pesos. This Monday, October 12, I will tell you what the price of the dollar is in Mexico, with the exchange rate from USD to MXN and how much the US currency is worth in the Mexican market. Let’s remember that in the last month, the dollar has suffered a significant rise in Mexico and here I will tell you more details about it.
How much is the dollar worth in Mexico today, October 12?
The market reference of 18.1654 pesos means that one US dollar is approximately equivalent to 18.17 Mexican pesosbefore considering the conditions of a particular operation.
To correctly interpret the available data, it is convenient to distinguish the market price, the FIX and the exchange rate published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
| Indicator | Value in pesos per dollar | Data date | Utility |
|---|---|---|---|
| USD/MXN market reference | 18.1654 | October 9, 2026 | Informational tracking of the quote. |
| Last FIX available from Banxico | 18.1128 | Determined on October 8 | Official reference calculated by the central bank. |
| Exchange rate published in the DOF | 17.9780 | Posted on October 8 | Data published the business day before Friday. |
| FIX for Friday, October 9 | Not available at cut | October 9, 2026 | Banxico broadcasts it starting at 12:00 p.m. |
What is the difference between the FIX and the DOF dollar?
The FIX is an exchange rate that Banxico determines through an average of quotes in the wholesale exchange market. The data comes from transaction platforms and other representative electronic means, for transactions settled on the second following banking business day. It does not necessarily correspond to the price that a person will find when exchanging cash.
Furthermore, there is a gap between its determination, publication and use for payments:
- Banxico determines the FIX during a banking business day.
- That value is published in the DOF on the next banking business day.
- For obligations in dollars payable in Mexico, Banxico indicates that the exchange rate published in the DOF on the banking business day immediately prior to payment must be used.
So, For Friday, October 9, the rule refers to the value published on Thursday the 8th: 17.9780 pesos per dollar, according to the official table consulted. This is different from the FIX of 18.1128 determined on Thursday, whose publication corresponds to the next business day. The distinction avoids using a correct figure on the wrong date or context.
How much are 20, 100 and 1,000 dollars in Mexican pesos?
To perform an indicative conversion with the latest available FIX, multiply the amount of dollars by 18.1128. The following equivalences are arithmetic calculations based on that official value, not purchase or sale offers from a financial institution.
- 20 dollars are equivalent to 362.26 Mexican pesos.
- 50 dollars are equivalent to 905.64 Mexican pesos.
- 100 dollars are equivalent to 1,811.28 Mexican pesos.
- 500 dollars are equivalent to 9,056.40 Mexican pesos.
- 1,000 dollars are equivalent to 18,112.80 Mexican pesos.
To convert in the opposite direction, divide the amount in pesos by the chosen exchange rate. It is important to maintain the same reference throughout the operation: mixing the FIX with a commercial quote can produce an estimate that does not coincide with the amount finally received.
What to check before buying or selling dollars?
Before exchanging money, request a quote for the specific transaction and confirm how much you will pay or receive. It is not enough to consult a general dollar figure: the market data and the FIX fulfill different functions.
The review should include the price offered, the final amount, the terms of service and any applicable costs. CONDUSEF has tools to compare commissions for financial products and services; These serve as support, but do not replace the supplier’s quote.
It is also advisable to verify the conditions published by each institution. For example, Banjercito reports that its currency buying and selling service is offered at no commission cost. This does not mean that you should operate at the FIX: absence of commission and exchange rate applied are different elements of the operation.
