Ulaanbaatar, April 22, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The State Visit of President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh to the Republic of Kazakhstan is ongoing. Following a tête-à-tête meeting between the two Heads of State, official talks were held.
President Khurelsukh reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to further strengthening relations with Kazakhstan, Mongolia’s first Strategic Partner in the Central Asian region, and expressed gratitude to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as well as to the Government and people of Kazakhstan, for the warm reception.
President Tokayev emphasized that President Khurelsukh’s visit holds special significance and has provided important momentum for expanding bilateral relations and cooperation.
The sides reviewed the achievements of over 30 years of bilateral relations and discussed enriching cooperation with a stronger economic content and expanding collaboration across all sectors.
The two Presidents noted that agreements reached at the presidential level are being translated into practical outcomes and agreed that broad opportunities exist for mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economic relations, and other fields.
The two countries agreed to implement major projects and programs that will serve as symbolic milestones of bilateral relations and cooperation.
Within the framework of the goal to increase bilateral trade turnover to USD 500 million, the parties agreed to expand exports of wool, cashmere, leather, hides, meat, and meat products from Mongolia, and fruits, berries, vegetables, and wheat from Kazakhstan.
The sides also agreed to develop a Joint Roadmap to implement the Interim Free Trade Agreement between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union.
While Hunnu Air currently operates regular flights on the Ulaanbaatar–Almaty route, Kazakhstan’s SCAT Airlines is scheduled to launch direct flights between Ulaanbaatar and Astana starting in June 2026. The parties agreed to resume the direct Bayan-Ulgii–Oskemen flight route, long-awaited by residents of Bayan-Ulgii aimag, and to establish a Consulate of Kazakhstan in Bayan-Ulgii.
A joint working group will be established to study ways to remove existing obstacles in the transport sector and explore opportunities for creating shorter transportation and logistics routes.
The two Presidents emphasized that cultural cooperation serves as an important bridge connecting the peoples of the two countries and welcomed the development of a joint action plan for cooperation in education, culture, sports, tourism, and youth sectors for 2026–2027.
President Tokayev highlighted that the doors of Kazakhstan’s universities remain open to Mongolian students and youth.
The two sides agreed to continue the tradition of participating in Mongolia’s “Nomad” World Cultural Festival and Kazakhstan’s Nomadic Culture Festival.
Joint projects and programs will also be implemented in information technology, mining, healthcare, physical culture, and sports.
The leaders noted that the participation of representatives from more than 200 enterprises in the business forum held during the visit demonstrates the strong willingness of entrepreneurs and wealth creators of both countries to cooperate.
President Khurelsukh highly appreciated Kazakhstan’s organization of a regional high-level environmental summit in Astana under the auspices of the United Nations and expressed support for Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish an International Water Organization.
The parties agreed to align Mongolia’s “Billions of Trees” National Movement with Kazakhstan’s “Two Billion Trees” Initiative and intensify cooperation within the framework of the “White Gold” program.
Both sides reaffirmed their continued support for the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries based in Ulaanbaatar.
The two countries confirmed their commitment to mutually support initiatives proposed at international and regional levels and to actively cooperate within international organizations.
