According to the spokesperson, the Polish Prime Minister and Minister of Defense were to be targets of attacks.
Polish police has received information about a possible attack on the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The news agency AFP writes this on Sunday.
A notification of a possible assassination attempt against Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz, who is also deputy prime minister, was handed over to the police via the State Protection Service (SOP).
This is stated by Karolina Galecka, spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of the Interior, at a press conference.
Representatives of the police, the state protection service (SOP) and the internal security service took part in a meeting on the matter on Sunday.
No further information was immediately available about the possible attack, including whether there are any suspects or how it would take place.
– We take the case extremely seriously, says Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the minister responsible for the country’s intelligence services, according to AFP.
– Month after month, year after year, the police, SOP and the security services receive more and more different threats and threatening messages regarding Poland and the Poles, he says.
He adds that in this case there was a high probability that the threats would actually be realized.
Tusk returned to the post of Polish prime minister in 2023 after a number of years with prime ministers from the national conservative Law and Justice party (PiS).
He has also been President of the European Council.
Tusk is chairman of the liberal and pro-European party Citizens’ Coalition, which stems from, among other things, Citizens’ Platform, which he himself helped to found in 2001.
Although violent crime is relatively rare in Poland, the country is deeply politically polarized and has faced security threats due to its proximity to the war in Ukraine. This is written by the Reuters news agency.
In August, the police detained a 23-year-old man who is accused of having called for the killing of high-ranking Polish politicians.
