The fire at Imilik in Ilulissat Isfjord was extinguished last night. In the district of Qinngorput in Nuuk, a drunk driver was arrested on the mountain.
At Ilulissat Icefjord burned the terrain in the area of Imilik yesterday. But the fire has now been put out, the chief of duty at the Greenland Police, Karsten Højrup Kristensen, told Sermitsiaq.
– At 14.26 yesterday there was a report of a wildfire outside Ilulissat, close to the Blue Route towards the fjord. The fire covered a small area of approximately 10 x 15 metres.
– It is assumed that the fire originated from natural causes, possibly as a result of the sun’s influence on glass or other material that ignited the vegetation. The fire brigade moved quickly and managed to fight the fire. The fire was extinguished around 23.00. There is no longer a fire in the area and it is completely extinguished, says the warden.
The warden also states that people can use the route again.
