PRIME MINISTER Dr Godwin Friday passed the Chairman’s baton of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority to Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda at the 78th Meeting of the OECS held at the Royalton Resort in Antigua on June 21 and 22, 2026.
The hand over is in keeping with the mandated rotation schedule of the chairmanship of the Authority.
Prime Minister Friday inherited the position of Chair when he became Prime Minister of St.Vincent and the Grenadines following the November, 2025 general elections.
In his remarks at the handover Dr. Friday stressed that the dual roles of prime minister and OECS Chairman were not competing with one another; they were, in fact, complementary, states a release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
He noted that the things his people at home called for the small island-nation cannot achieve by itself but must work together with its neighbours to make them happen, identifying among them, more affordable and sustainable energy; reliable and affordable air travel; a stronger voice in arenas where big powers play; and resilience against natural disasters, especially powerful storms that do not respect borders before they strike.
