The air operation at the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá It was temporarily suspended on the night of this Wednesday, September 30, due to an “electrical storm” that occurred over the capital.

The measure was reported by the Civil Aeronautics, which noted that the decision was made due to safety conditions while “weather conditions improve” and recommended that passengers stay in “contact” with the airlines to find out the status of their flights and possible news.
Amidst the weather conditions in the city, TransMilenio also reported an impact at the 127th Street station, where a falling tree caused damage to one of the structures.

Depending on the transportation system, the station’s “western ticket office is out of service due to the fall on the structure.”
TransMilenio indicated that a team was on site “assessing the damage to work as soon as possible” to clear the area. The entity added that it will report any news related to the operation of this point through its official channels and social networks.

Reports of rain in Bogotá: Idiger spoke of ‘electrical activity’ and hail
It should be noted that the meteorological situation also occurs in different sectors of Bogotá. During the afternoon and evening, The District Institute for Risk Management and Climate Change (Idiger) reported rainfall of different intensity in several locations.
In one of its latest reports, issued around 7 p.m., the entity indicated that There were rains in Usaquén, with greater accumulations; in addition to rainfall in Suba, Engativá, Barrios Unidos and Teusaquillo, while in Fontibón and some sectors of the center drizzles were recorded.
Hours earlier, the Idiger had reported that rains of moderate to strong intensity were concentrated in the north of the city, especially in Suba, Usaquén, Barrios Unidos and Chapinero, and that rainfall was expected to continue for the next hour.

Later, the entity reported that moderate to heavy rains persisted “with electrical activity in Usaquén and Suba”, with extension to Barrios Unidos, Engativá, Chapinero, Fontibón and Teusaquillo.
YesAt around 6 pm, the presence of hail was also reported in Teusaquillo and it was indicated that the rains had “a trajectory towards the south of Bogotá.”
The Idiger monitoring also recorded rains since three in the afternoon. Initially, it was Fontibón where there was an increase in rainfall, with advances towards Kennedy and Bosa, while in Rafael Uribe Uribe the arrival of rain was contemplated.
The entity has since recommended that drivers drive with caution and keep their lights on while traveling.
EL TIEMPO consulted the real-time monitoring of the Idiger that showed, during the night, presence of precipitation in Fontibón, in the vicinity of El Dorado Airport, as well as rains in Barrios Unidos, Usaquén and Suba.

In these latter sectors, more intense rains were recorded, while drizzles were reported in areas of the south and center of Bogotá.
Given the temporary suspension of air activities, Civil Aeronautics reiterated to passengers the recommendation to consult directly with their respective airlines to verify the status of the flights. The resumption of the operation in El Dorado will depend on weather conditions and security conditions.
