ONDE launches the national campaign ‘STOP child labour’

This campaign is a continuation of a constant commitment made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, in favor of the protection of children and the promotion of children’s rights, indicates a press release from ONDE. Child labor

Child labor constitutes a violation of the fundamental rights of the child, and first of all their right to education, their right to protection and their right to development, as guaranteed by the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), ratified by Morocco.

Over the past few years, significant progress has been made with a drop of 8.2% compared to 2023 and 59.1% compared to 2017, thanks to the joint efforts of governmental and non-governmental institutions, field actors and all stakeholders mobilized around this important cause.

Morocco has affirmed its commitment on the international scene by becoming a Pioneer Country of Alliance 8.7 and by hosting in Marrakech the 6th World Conference on the Elimination of Child Labor in which ONDE actively participated by placing children at the heart of the reflection.

The fact remains that nearly 101,000 children aged 7 to 17 are still engaged in economic activity, a rate reduced to 1.3% (according to data provided by the HCP in 2024), of which 62,000 children are exposed to dangerous work, and 87.7% have left school, making child labor one of the main causes of school dropouts in our country.

Inspired by situations observed in daily life, several audiovisual capsules dedicated to raising awareness against child labor have been developed by ONDE. These capsules show realities that are sometimes ignored or trivialized and invite everyone to question the role they can play in protecting children and preserving their rights.

The first capsule will be broadcast from June 12, 2026 on ONDE’s national channels and digital platforms and the others will follow during the month of June on social networks. At the same time, ONDE is starting a series of training courses at the national level intended for community relays in partnership with the INDH to develop the capacities of families to protect their children.

Through this campaign, ONDE reaffirms its commitment to a society where every child is protected, listened to and supported. Because behind every work situation there is, above all, a child. A child who has to go to school. A child who must play and dream. A child who must build his future.

Child protection is a collective responsibility: Any citizen can report anonymously and free of charge any situation violating the rights of the child by contacting 2511, ONDE’s toll-free number, by going to the 2511.ma platform or through the dedicated application.

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), child labor refers to activities that deprive children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and which compromise their education, their health, their physical or psychological development.

Under the effective Presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem, ONDE has been working for 31 years to promote, protect and participate in children.

ONDE deploys its action through several structuring mechanisms and programs, notably the 2511 Listening Center, the first listening center for children in Africa, the Children’s Parliament, a space for children’s participation as well as the National Child Psycho-Trauma Support System (DNPTE). Through its awareness-raising, advocacy, prevention and support actions, ONDE contributes to strengthening children’s rights and promoting their best interests.
