
The bank’s press release said: “According to the procedure to facilitate the transactions of the Bank of Afghanistan, the old (Afghan) banknotes collected from the market worth 1 billion 141 million 660 thousand afghanis were burned after careful counting and control under the supervision of the appointed delegation led by the second vice president of the Bank of Afghanistan Mullah Mohammad Akhund.”
These banknotes included (10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000) Afghanis, which were burned in a special furnace in Balkh district of Balkh province.
The second vice president of the Bank of Afghanistan said that this bank is committed to carry out easy and safe economic transactions from time to time to collect old and unsuitable (Afghan) banknotes from the market and destroy them according to the relevant procedures.
He asked the citizens to fulfill their responsibility in the proper use of (Afghan) banknotes so that the banknotes do not become old before the specified period.
Before this, the Bank of Afghanistan announced the burning of old banknotes worth around 600 million Afghanis in Kabul.
It is worth noting that after the Bank of Afghanistan has loaded the said banknotes in the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Justice and Finance and security agencies; They were sent to special furnaces by the selected delegation and burned.
